Customisable Faceplate

This step by step guide shows you how to make a custom faceplate for your Me2. This can be a name for your new printer. The best part? You get to make it on your own Me2!

Here’s the steps:

  1. Download the blank faceplate HERE.
  2. Open MatterControl on your computer.
  3. Click the create button at the bottom.
  4. In the pop-up which comes up, click “Text Creator”
  5. Enter your chosen text in the text field at the bottom of the window and hit enter. HINT, don’t use too many characters or the faceplate will look too crowded.
  6. Uncheck the underline box. If you want, you can move the height slider to the right to make the text stick out more. Don’t move it left or it won’t protrude at all.
  7. Click “Save & Exit”
  8. Your text will now be a 3d model at the bottom of your print queue. Click the text you made in the print queue to select it then click on “insert”.
  9. In the navigator which opens, go to where you saved the blank faceplate and open the faceplate.

  10. The faceplate will now be in the same work space as the text. Click and drag the faceplate so that the text is in the middle (or wherever you want it to be). Then click “Group” then click “save”
  11. You’re ready to print! Choose your material and print the way you always do.
  12. Once your new faceplate is printed, simply unscrew your old faceplate and screw on the new one. Simples!

Taking it further

If you’re feeling adventurous, make or download some other objects like logos, symbols or even Darth Vader and try inserting those with the faceplate to make your Me2 look even better.
